Adsorption media for contaminants
Granular activated carbon (GAC) in fixed beds for removal of dissolved organics and oxidants; can be reactivated or exchanged.
STANDARD SPECIFICATION:
– Bed depth: 1.0–2.0 m; EBCT: 8–20 min
– Media: coal/coconut/wood‑based; Iodine Number 900–1100 mg/g
– Hydraulic loading: 5–15 m/h; Backwash expansion 20–30 %
– Dechlorination capacity depends on chlorine demand and NOM
INDUSTRY USE CASES:
– Municipal color/TOC control
– Dechlorination upstream of RO/NF/IX
– Taste and odor removal; micropollutant polishing (case‑by‑case)
PRETREATMENT / INTEGRATION NOTES:
– Biological activity may develop—consider BAC operation and periodic backwash
– Spent GAC handling per site rules; sampling ports for breakthrough monitoring
